Aquaculture Council of Western Australia

The Aquaculture Council of Western Australia (ACWA) is the State's peak aquaculture industry body.  ACWA prides itself on being a member driven organisation who works on behalf of its members to create benefits that ensure a profitable future for its members and a viable future for Western Australia's aquaculture industry.

Presently, ACWA's membership represents over 90% of both the current and future industry earnings of the Western Australian aquaculture industry, and consists of Institutions, Corporatations, Aquaculture Sector Associations and individual members. 

ACWA is only as strong as it member base, as such, ACWA continues to recruit new members to progess aquaculture industry development in Western Australia.

Aquaculture Council - Strategic Goals

ACWA's core business is government policy advocacy- particularly those things that companies or persons cannot, or sub-optimally, change individually.  This enables its members to focus on the business of growing fish.  Within this core business the Aquaculture Council of Western Australia has five strategic goals:

1. To promote the Western Australian aquaculture industry to the community and government at State and national levels.
2. To provide an effective communications network for all members and stakeholders.
3. To influence government and its departments to ensure an economic and legislative environment that encourages the development of responsible aquaculture enterprise.
4. To provide quality cost-effective support and services to members.
5. To uphold the principles and practice of ecologically sustainable development in all WA aquaculture sectors.

Aquaculture Council - Business Model

ACWA’s five strategic goals are delivered through three business programs:

1. Aquaculture for People (Strategic Objective 1,& 2 )
2. Aquaculture for Profit (Strategic Objective 3 & 4)
3. Aquaculture for Tomorrow (Strategic Objective 5)

that provide the following activities on behalf of its members:

• Provides relevant and timely industry information to members
• Organises industry relevant events, functions and training.
• Provides member discounts on various goods and services
• Promotes the aquaculture industry
• Lobbies members of parliament and government departments
• Forms productive relationships with key stakeholders
• Participates on various aquaculture related working groups and committees

to deal with legislative changes and issues such as:

• Site Access, Tenure and Water Rights
• Responsible Agri-chemical use
• Animal Health & Bio-security
• Research & Development
• Occupational Health & Safety
• Environment
  
• The day to day management of ACWA's business programs are carried out by the ACWA's CEO and overseen by the ACWA Committee of Management.
