QUARTERLY UPDATE - DECEMBER 2008
AQUACULTURE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
The Aquaculture Development Council (ADC) is focused on furthering the aquaculture industry in Western Australia through funding various projects.
Open Ocean Aquaculture
In the fourth quarter of 2008 (September - December), the ADC continued to progress its key project, the Open Ocean Aquaculture (OOA) Project. The OOA Project comprises a number of sub-projects, including a communications strategy, governance framework and environmental baseline data project. During the fourth quarter, the ADC:
- commissioned a consultant to undertake the Governance Framework for the OOA Project, which is progressing;
- developed professional communications materials for the OOA Project in conjunction with PPR;
- developed a Website Business Plan for the proposed OOA Project Communications Website;
- successfully launched the OOA Project Communications Strategy in conjunction with PPR at Two Rocks;
- briefed a number of interested local stakeholder groups regarding the OOA Project; and
- liaised with several key Commonwealth Government departments in Canberra regarding the OOA Project.
Roadmapping
In addition to focusing on the OOA Project the ADC, in collaboration with Mr Andrew Duff of VPS, continued to progress the outcomes of the Aquaculture Innovation Roadmapping Workshop series. A number of innovation concepts were identified through the workshops and MBA students from the UWA School of Business were tasked with developing business plans and proposals for the concepts. The final reports were presented to Mr Russell Barnett, Mr Dale Harris and Mr Andrew Duff as part of an MBA assessment process. The ADC will assess the reports and those of a suitable quality will have the potential for further follow up work to be conducted.
