QUARTERLY UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2008
AQUACULTURE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
The Aquaculture Development Council (ADC) is focused on furthering the aquaculture industry in Western Australia through funding various projects.
Open Ocean Aquaculture
In the third quarter of 2008 (July - September), the ADC continued to progress its key project, the Open Ocean Aquaculture (OOA) Project. The OOA Project comprises a number of sub-projects, including a communications strategy, governance framework and environmental baseline data project. During the third quarter, the ADC:
- commissioned a consultant to undertake the communications strategy, which is now in final draft form;
- held a Communications Workshop in conjunction with PPR to assist in development of the strategy;
- investigated options for the development of a governance framework for the OOA Project; and
- engaged a contractor to commence environmental baseline data gathering for the OOA Project.
Aquaculture Innovation Roadmapping
In addition to focusing on the OOA Project the ADC, in collaboration with Mr Andrew Duff of VPS, presented a series of Aquaculture Innovation Roadmapping Workshops. Four workshops were held at fortnightly intervals during August and September 2008. Utilising Innovation Roadmapping, a form of strategic planning for innovation, the workshops aimed to facilitate expert input into aquaculture market and technology analyses, augmented by innovation tools and resources.
The workshops were well attended and at their conclusion, five innovation concepts with the potential to transform the productivity of aquaculture globally were identified. These concepts will now be further investigated through the development of business plans and proposals. MBA students from the UWA School of Business will develop these plans and proposals.
