The Marron Growers Association of Western Australia Inc was formed in August 1976 and incorporated in 1978.
The principal objects of the Association are:
To fulfil these and other objects the Association has been instrumental in initiating various legislation changes which have allowed the number of aquaculture licences for marron farming to grow from about 30 in 1994 to in excess of 250 today. As of August 2000, there were 255 aquaculture licenses issued by Fisheries WA endorsed for marron. This number is growing rapidly. Membership of the association was about 160 of whom about 100 were licensed. 40 were in the process of obtaining a license and the balance just interested or researchers.
In the past years, the Association held Field Days open to the general public, along with workshops and seminars on various aspects of growing marron. It also publishes the Marron Growers Bulletin in 4 issues per year.
However, the major problems with marron poaching (stealing) has become very bad, and in future, field days on operating farms will be restricted to members only.
